There is an important difference that you should know about when it comes to the optimum mattresses and their latex counterparts. The Sealy Optimum Dreams Latex mattress has an entirely different make up that makes it much different than its entry-level counterpart in the gel memory foam collection. Gel memory foam mattresses have a sinking sensation when you lay down as it conforms to your body and provides you the groundbreaking nights sleep that it advertises. Latex mattresses provide the same amount and type of support, but without the sinking feeling. You get the same body contoured support and comfort as you would from a gel memory foam mattress, but you sleep "on top" of the mattress, rather than "in" the mattress.
So if you like the idea of having a gel memory foam mattress but can't stand the sinking feeling you get when you lay down on one, then the Optimum Dreams latex mattress is a great place to start looking for more information.
If you have read any of the other Sealy optimum mattress reviews then you know that I am a side sleeper myself. So this section is especially important to me when I am picking out a mattress. As stated above the latex composition of the mattress doesn't give any sort of sinking feeling as the mattress conforms around you. It's much more springy and resilient. The Optimum Dreams lives up to that. When I laid down the latex was right there to greet me. The Dreams is a medium-firm mattress. (as a matter of fact, most of the latex models have this sort of comfort feel with slight variations), as such it was a little firm for side sleeping, however, I was quite comfortable. There was some pressure in my shoulder, none in the hip area though, which is important to keep in mind if you sleep on your side.
As a medium-firm comfort level mattress, the Optimum Dreams latex mattress is ideal for back sleeping. The resilient latex was very responsive to the curves of my back and made me very comfortable while laying there. The OUTLAST treatment to the fabric made the mattress a little bit cooler than the ambient temperature of the room so it's not hard to imagine the latex versions of the Optimum mattresses living up to their temperature regulation promises. Overall, I highly recommend the comfort and benefits of this mattress to the back sleeper.
Stomach sleepers will love this mattress. The gel memory foam optimum mattresses start out very comfortable for stomach sleeping, however, as the gel memory foam conforms to your body it gets less and less comfortable as it starts to create an uncomfortable curve in your back. The Sealy Optimum Dreams latex mattress does not suffer from this issue. The comfort is consistent from the moment you lay down until you get up, so you can feel safe in the knowledge that if you lay down on this mattress and find yourself comfortable, you are going to be comfortable all night.
Overall I highly recommend this mattress for everyone, regardless of how you sleep. That is one of the joys of the Optimum series by Sealy. Between the temperature regulation benefits and superior body contouring support, most of the reasons why you would wake up in the night have been addressed. Which allows you to sleep longer, deeper, and for more of the night.
