Most of the time when we think of adjustable bases we don’t think of platform beds. However, more and more models are being released that are platform-compatible. As the owner of a platform bed, I greatly appreciate this.
While there aren’t as many options available for a platform as there are for a traditional bed, there are still some fantastic choices. Let’s cover the two ends of the spectrum- the affordable Freestyle and the tricked out Element 3.
The Freestyle Comfort Adjustable Base was designed to fit seamlessly into any existing bed frame or on a platform bed. Normally, additional parts are required to use an adjustable base on a platform bed, but the Freestyle is ready to go right out of the box.
It also offers a strong, yet lightweight German-designed steel frame with a midnight black finish. It has the basic safety features including Emergency Power Down, Power Surge Protection, and Zero Pull Force, and a German-engineered motor.
The motor even utilizes noise displacement for quieter operation which allows you to sleep peacefully even if an adjustment is made. Plus, the standby mode is ultra-energy efficient.
The Freestyle allows for an Upper Body Incline of up to 70 degrees with a Lower Body Incline up to 30 degrees. It also has a One-Touch Flat Button, Zero-Gravity and Anti-Snore Positions, and the overall base height is 3” which means it won’t make your bed much higher. There is also a mattress retainer bar included and a connector plate which prevents separation of the Twin XL size.
The combined capacity of two Twin XL’s for a king size set is 800 lbs, 400 lbs for each Twin XL. A Queen has a maximum capacity of 600 lbs.
The Freestyle is a great introductory base which is affordable at $899.95 and provides the adjustment you want with the platform compatibility you need.
The Element 3 is the most advanced of the Element line from Ergomotion and is compatible with platform beds thanks to its incredibly thin design. It offers innovative features, several benefits, and can provide you with the tailored sleeping positions you want. It also offers the standard safety features as well.
Any bed can become adjustable with the Element. The Element is among the slimmest adjustable bases available on the market.
With the wall-hugging feature and the anchor at the foot of the bed, you’ll get a slip-free experience where you enjoy all the positions while still remaining close to your nightstand.
The Element offers head, foot, or simultaneous massage at three intensity levels that you can set for 10, 20, or 30 minutes and utilizes wave vibration.
There are several leg options if you do ever want to stand the base right on the floor or you can set it on top of your platform base.
With two USB ports on either side of the bed, you can charge your devices without having to get up. Keep on scrolling, your phone won’t die.
The slim edges of the frame are designed to blend seamlessly into any design. It won’t stand out from your bed and can be easily covered by your comforter when not in use. If you don’t want it to be noticeable, it won’t be.
The wireless remote offers a One-Touch Zero Gravity button so that you can quickly switch into the most comfortable position. By enjoy the Zero-G preset you can improve your circulation, increasing relaxation and helping those dealing with leg swelling and lower back pain. This position is endorsed and the least stressful on the joints and spine as well.
Ergomotion is all about spine health, and the Element 3 is ergonomically correct which helps eliminate muscle pain and provides support that distributes evenly to relieve pressure.
This latest model of the Element features Bluetooth technology that allows you to connect your smart devices.
The Element 3, and even the 1 and 2, are feature-rich, high-end adjustable bases that provide the perfect shape for a platform bed. You can enjoy it on its own as well. When you’re willing to pay a bit more, at $1,066 for a twin, then this is the base for you.
It's incredible the pick up we've seen in the number of new models coming out that offer platform-friendly fittings as well as the coveted tilting feature, which we talk about here.
The Glideaway Elevation Kit that can be added to the Odessa, Accord, and Vesta bases also makes them platform-friendly while providing the tilt. Something they didn't promote as much but are now really boosting. As more and more homes feature platform-style beds the adjustable bases need to keep up.
At the recent Las Vegas Summer Market we checked out a variety of new adjustable bases vendors, including a great small company that we're likely to be carrying soon, and noticed that the tilt feature combined with a zero clearance bottom was the hot new trend.
In fact, it almost seemed that the new bases that were coming out from places like Glideaway, Leggett & Platt, and more, had to include platform-friendly operation and a tilting mechanism to really matter. As a long time side sleeper with heartburn and a platform bed, I'm all for it.
More and more bases are coming out with platform-friendly designs and some even operate right inside their own platform-like frame. Keep an eye out for the newest releases and stay in touch with us by signing up for our newsletter.
