Sealy Optimum Review

Taking a closer look at Sealy's Elation Gold Mattress

The Sealy Optimum Elation Gold Mattress is by far the most supportive mattress I have had the good fortune of reviewing. I normally sleep on a classic innerspring mattress and within a few minutes of lying down I was fighting to remain awake enough to take notes. A couple things to remember as your reading my experience with the Elation Gold mattress, this review will be updated throughout the year as temperatures change and we receive different questions from you. We want to ensure this answer any questions you might have about this mattress so you can make a more informed decision about which one to purchase. Also, remember that I am writing about MY experience with this mattress, and your may vary if you’re sleeping preferences differ from mine. With that said let’s begin!

This mattress has been discontinued and is no longer for sale. The Sealy Optimum Mattresses have been replaced with the Sealy Response Collection.

Comfort by Position

  • comfort for the side sleeper with the Sealy Optimum elation Gold Mattress

    4/5

As I have said before I am a side sleeper myself so knowing how suited a mattress is for side sleeping is one of the first things I think of when trying new mattresses. The Sealy Optimum Elation Gold is an excellent side sleeper, and for a gel memory foam mattress, there was a surprising lack of the “sinking” feeling you get when you lay down on it, it was much more gradual, to the point where it barely registered as I got comfortable. Transitioning from one side to the other wasn’t nearly as awkward as it was on other Optimum mattresses. I turned over and the Elation was right there with me every step of the way making sure everything was supported. The Sealy Optimum Elation Gold is quite an excellent side sleeping mattress.

  • comfort for the back sleeper with the Sealy Optimum Elation Gold Mattress

    5/5

The Elation Gold mattress is also an excellent choice for the back sleeper! There was very good support on my lower back (which is one of my problem areas) the whole time I lay there, which was very nice. This mattress can appeal to a lot of different consumers, the top feels soft and plush to the touch, but laying down the supportive capabilities are more than evident, making it possible for the Elation Gold to appeal to both soft and firm mattress lovers.

One of the big claims of the Sealy optimum mattress line is the heat dispersion advantage over typical memory foam. At the time of this writing, it is the middle of February, a time in Las Vegas where heat dispersion isn’t really a problem.

  • comfort for the stomach sleeper in the Sealy Optimum Elation Gold mattress

    4/5

The Sealy Optimum Elation Gold mattress provides a medium-firm comfort feel that can work for stomach sleepers as well. I don't typically spend much time on my stomach, as you know, I am a side sleeper. The initial feel is very comfortable and supportive, as I slowly sunk in it did begin to get a little uncomfortable for me. I recommend a very thin, very soft pillow (which I didn't have at the time of this writing). With a smaller pillow, it may have worked, which is why I am saying that it can work for stomach sleepers. Stomach sleepers are going to prefer thelatex versions of the Optimum mattresses as they retain the initial supportive feel without sinking in.

Overall Experience

Overall the Sealy Optimum Elation Gold mattress is an extremely comfortable place to sleep, with an excellent support system that ensures your whole body gets the support it needs, right where it needs it, and it can appeal to both the soft mattress lover, and the firm mattress lover.

Writers Bias

Since this is a mattress review I thought it would be helpful to you to know where you are receiving this information from. I am 6’2” about 260lbs, kind of a bigger guy, and I am a side sleeper that is used to sleeping on a pretty standard pillow top (not-flippable) mattress. So I am familiar with pressure points on a mattress, with my arm going numb because of the way I slept on it, and many of the other typical complaints most people have about mattresses.
